Harbour Grace Court Employees Receive Layoffs #nlpoli

The Harbour Grace Court will be closing. Employees at the court have received layoff notices.

The provincial government has not said where cases in that area will go.

Harbour Grace offered to buy the current court building and lease it to the province, but that was turned down by Minister Andrew Parsons.

The Court is Newfoundland and Labrador’s oldest public building. It was built in 1830 with local donations. Named a National Historic Site in 1966, the classically-inspired building, is comprised of a court, jail and jailor’s residence.
