Why Bother With Tourism? #nlpoli

Newfoundland has a lucrative tourist industry. Every year thousands flock to the Province to take in our breathtaking scenery. This year tourists may have their breath taken away by something else... the price of everything!

The Liberal Budget has already shot up the price of gas and as of July 1 will send the sales tax up an additional 2 percent.

It would make you wonder, why would tourists even bother to get on the ferry to come here?

Current projections show that this will be an above average year in tourism for the province, but who wants to spend twice as much on gas to go to the Oceans Day at Terra Nova National Park?

The Island of Newfoundland is big. It is about 900 km from Channel-Port aux Basques to St. John's. That's a lot of gas.

So sure go visit the Tablelands, or take a trip to L'anse aux Meadows. But it would probably make more sense to buy a horse.

But driving a car in Newfoundland this Summer, or staying at a hotel... why bother?
