All About Saint Pierre and Miquelon

Saint Pierre and Miquelon is a French archipelago south of Newfoundland.

The area is divided by Saint Pierre which is bigger and Miquelon.

Saint Pierre island is far busier and is rich in the French atmosphere. The area has a population of 6,080 as of January 2011.

Miquelon-Langlade contains the Grand Barachois lagoon, home to seabirds and seals and is sparsely populated.

Île-aux-Marins, a nearby island, features an abandoned fishing village.

April to November or December, a passenger-only ferry connects the Newfoundland town of Fortune with Saint-Pierre. The same ferry operates year-round between Saint-Pierre, Langlade, and Miquelon.

It is the only remnant of the former colonial empire of New France that still remains under French control.
