The Last Beothuk

Demasduit was a Beothuk woman who was one of her last people in Newfoundland.

She was born near the end of the 18th century.

The Beothuk were trying to defend themselves from Europeans. Violent conflict against the groups was common.

Demasduit was brought to St. John's in the Springs of 1819. It was there that her portrait was painted.

She died on January 8, 1820, in Botwood.

She was also known as Mary March.
