Wind, Rain, & Snow to Pound the Province #nlwx #nltraffic

An area of low pressure is forming off the U.S. eastern seaboard today.

It is expected to undergo explosive cyclogenesis, a process in which a storm rapidly deepens. A 'weather bomb' is defined as an intense low pressure system with a central pressure that falls 24 millibars or more in a 24-hour period.

The low will bring strong wind to all of Newfoundland on Friday.

Precipitation will begin in the form of snow along southern, western, and northern Newfoundland beginning on Friday morning.

By Friday afternoon heavy rain is likely to begin on the Avalon and eastern Newfoundland and will continue until Saturday morning. This will lead to significant snow melt

In southwestern Newfoundland the low will bring storm surge. This combined with the strong wind will give elevated water levels and pounding surf which may lead to damage.
