EDITORIAL: Do You Know What a Fire Lane Is? Probably Not #nltraffic

Getting a drivers license allows you to operate a motor vehicle. But it does not allow you to park wherever you want, most notably in fire lanes.

And no just because you will "only be a minute" or "my wife had to run in for a couple things" still does not allow you to park in a fire lane.

Fire lanes are defined as passageways or access roads that allow fire apparatuses to pass through. They are not intended for normal vehicle traffic. Meaning, quite simply that unless you are driving a 35,000 lbs fully loaded red fire truck then you are not legally permitted to park in a fire lane.

By doing so you are jeopardizing public safety.

It is also not cheap... fines for parking in a fire lane is $50.

If you happen to be one of the many people who park in these fire lanes you're probably an idiot.
