List of Newfoundland and Labrador Premier's #nlpoli


Since our confederation with Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador has had thirteen Premier's.

Here is a look at all of them.

The first premier was Joey Smallwood from April 1, 1949, to January 18, 1972.

Frank Moores was premier from January 18, 1972, until March 26, 1979.

The youngest first minister in Newfoundland history, Brian Peckford, was premier from 26 March 1979 to 22 March 1989.

From 22 March 1989 until 5 May 1989 Tom Rideout was premier.

The premier from 5 May 1989 until 26 January 1996 was Clyde Wells.

Brian Tobin became premier on January 26, 1996, and served until October 16, 2000.

Beaton Tulk was premier from just 16 October 2000 until 13 February 2001.

The premier from February 13, 2001, until November 6, 2003, was Roger Grimes.

Danny Williams was premier from November 6, 2003, until stepping down on December 3, 2010.
Kathy Dunderdale was the first female premier from December 3, 2010, until stepping down on January 24, 2014.

Tom Marshall took over the role as interim premier and stayed in the role until September 26, 2014.
Paul Davis took over the leadership and was premier from 26 September 2014 until the 14 December 2015.

Dwight Ball is the current premier and was sworn in on December 14, 2015.
