
Conservation officers are warning residents Happy Valley-Goose Bay to be cautious following reports of wolves on the back trails of the Department of National Defence Base (Canadian side), near the entrance to the Loppet Trail after a dog was attacked on Wednesday evening.
Although Officers have not see the wolves they are asking residents to be vigilant.
Wolves have been known to occasionally attack small to medium-sized pets. Pet owners, especially those living adjacent to wooded areas, are advised to protect their animals.
Conservation officers will continue to monitor the situation.
Should you encounter a wolf:
Stay calm;
Give the animal space;
Back away slowly - never run; and
Avoid direct eye contact with the animal.
