If MP Seamus O'Regan has his way Signal Hill will become a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
For the first time in twelve years, the nomination list will be open to the public.
Signal Hill is a hill which overlooks the city of St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. Due to its strategic placement overlooking the harbor, fortifications have been built on the hill since the mid 17th century.
Signal Hill was the site of St. John’s harbor defenses from the 17th century to the Second World War and where Guglielmo Marconi received the world’s first transatlantic wireless signal in 1901.
There are currently four UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the province. Gros Morne National Park, L'Anse aux Meadows, Mistaken Point, and Red Bay Basque Whaling Station.
