The Provincial Government, through the Honour 100 Program, partnered with Veterans Affairs Canada to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Battle at Gueudecourt, France, which took place from October 10 to 12, 1916.
A commemorative ceremony was held at the Newfoundland Memorial in Gueudecourt on Wednesday.
Located about one kilometre north-east of Gueudecourt village a caribou memorial marks the spot where the Newfoundland Regiment played an integral role in the capture and holding of a German strong-point. Gueudecourt was one of the few successes in the Battle of Le Transloy.
