Samsung had announced a global recall of the Galaxy Note 7 after reports of the phone catching on fire, but problems have persisted.

South Korea's Yonhap news agency said on Monday that Samsung has now suspended production of the phones. Samsung would not confirm or deny the report.

Authorities are investigating new reports that the new Note 7 replacement smartphones are still catching fire. One incident happened aboard a Southwest Airlines flight when a phone began to emit smoke.
When first released, the phone was praised for its extended battery endurance compared to other smartphones, running for an extended period on one charge. After the phone was put on sale, there were reports of scores of incidents in which the battery exploded or caught fire.
